Kevin Owens def. Seth Rollins (for the WWE Universal Title)
The Kevin Owens Show rolls on. The longest-reigning WWE Universal Champion of all time will extend his record now that Owens has defeated Seth Rollins in his first title defense at WWE Clash of Champions. That being said, Owens should probably send a fruit basket or something to his “best friend,” Chris Jericho, who teed The Prizefighter up for the maneuver that ultimately put Rollins away.

All of which is to say The Architect should be doubly bitter over this loss, since he had promised to prove he was still “The Man” in WWE to Raw General Manager Mick Foley and Commissioner Stephanie McMahon (who he still held responsible for Triple H’s betrayal), and Rollins made good on that promise for the entirety of the match. Owens put up a smothering front, but Rollins hung tough, battling back from an attack that focused on his repaired knee and hitting Owens with a Frog Splash after K.O. accidentally put himself through the Spanish announce table.

That was when Jericho, in a “Kevin Owens Show” shirt and his signature scarf, sprinted to ringside and swung the match, setting off a scuffle that ended in the referee getting, well, KO’ed. Not only did Rollins hit a Pedigree that went unrecorded by an official (the audience managed a 15-count, though), he was forced to fight off both Jericho and Owens before Stephanie sent out a replacement ref. By then, however, Owens was ready to go, and quickly put Rollins down with a Pop-up Powerbomb that Stephanie observed with an inscrutable expression from the entrance ramp. Redesigned. Rebuilt. Denied

Finn Bálor first stepped in a WWE ring as a Raw Superstar four weeks ago. Tonight at SummerSlam, he left the squared circle as the first WWE Universal Champion, defeating Seth Rollins with the Coup de Grace to capture the new title and building to a legacy of success that’s spanned Europe, Japan and NXT. Moments before history was made, Raw Commissioner Stephanie McMahon and General Manager Mick Foley unveiled the new WWE Universal Championship. And then the mind-games began as The Demon King stalked to the ring through a thick cloud of red smoke with a neon green tongue painted on his chest and a giant eye on his back.
Rollins could not get away from his opponent early on. Bálor blindsided him when the opening bell rang. When Rollins rolled to the outside to catch his breath, Bálor caught him with a senton over the top rope. He then began to target Rollins’ surgically repaired left knee. Bálor had Rollins reeling, until “The Man” powerbombed his opponent into the ringside barricade, flipping momentum entirely.

The main event of WWE Battleground was two years in the making, one the WWE Universe had been waiting to see ever since Seth Rollins stabbed his Shield brethren Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose in the back. The stakes could not have been higher, with the WWE Championship hanging in the balance less than 24 hours before a New Era of WWE began, with defending champion Ambrose heading to SmackDown Live and Reigns and Rollins anchoring Monday Night Raw.

Despite the odds being stacked against SmackDown Live and their top draft pick, the determined Ambrose persevered against his former Shield brothers, eventually hitting Reigns with Dirty Deeds to retain his title and take it to Tuesday nights.
Raw Commissioner Stephanie McMahon and her Raw General Manager, Mick Foley, SmackDown Live Commissioner Shane McMahon and his General Manager, Daniel Bryan, all made their way to ringside to get the best view of the match that would shape the future of WWE and determine which brand got control of the WWE Championship.

Seth Rollins def. Roman Reigns (But Ambrose Cashes in on Rollins to win the Title) – Full Recap
The Architect fought like a man looking to reclaim both his title and his pride, facing Reigns for the first time without The Authority or J&J Security ready to intervene on his behalf. Some early ring rust aside, Rollins quickly showed he still possessed the skills that took him to the top. But going toe-to-toe with “The Guy” proved to be a poor strategy when Reigns used his strength advantage to overpower his foe with clotheslines, headbutts and a tilt-a-whirl slam to the reeling Rollins.

The Architect remained defiant, if not competitive, slapping the increasingly confident Reigns across the face while the champion tried to worm his way into Rollins’ head. The Big Dog responded with yet more power maneuvers, forcing Rollins to the outside and battering him about announce tables of varying languages before flattening him with the sit-out Razor’s Edge Powerbomb.
At this point, with Reigns in the driver’s seat, Rollins dipped into a fourth “R”: Recover. He reversed a Superman Punch into a turnbuckle STO and was off to the races, with a blur of flailing kicks and flapping hair as he hit Reigns with an enzuigiri, dropkick to the outside, suicide dive, a tope’ over the top rope and a Sling Blade.

Even a Superman Punch that found its mark couldn’t stop Rollins, who now seemed fully in control of the match and confident in his abilities. So much so that he even successfully executed the sunset flip that put him out of action in the first place, even putting some extra English on it by transitioning right into a buckle-bomb. On his heels, Reigns resorted to physically shoving Rollins away, but The Architect pressed on, forcing Reigns off the top rope with the supersuplex, Falcon’s Arrow combination.
It was going to take an extraordinary strike from one of them to turn the tide, and Reigns was the one to throw it. It’s too bad he missed: After a Superman Punch gave him some breathing room, The Big Dog pursued Rollins outside the ring and sprinted full-tilt into a Spear, only Rollins dodged the move and Reigns plowed face-first through the ringside barricade.

The impact knocked Reigns loopy … but not so much he didn’t have the wherewithal to shove Rollins into the official to stop his momentum. That ended up backfiring, ironically, when said referee was too slow to crawl and complete a three-count after Reigns hit a Spear a few moments later, leaving Rollins alive and with, perhaps, one last gasp left in him. It’s too bad for Reigns that Rollins didn’t miss. The Big Dog attempted another Spear, only Rollins leaped up and miraculously transitioned into a midair Pedigree. A second Pedigree moments later spelled the end of Roman’s reign, and Seth Rollins was once again the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. For about two minutes.

Dean Ambrose’s music roared to life in the middle of The Architect’s celebration, but The Lunatic Fringe, rather than face Rollins head-on, took a page out of his old brother’s book and struck him from behind with the Money in the Bank briefcase he had only won hours earlier. Ambrose cashed in the contract on the spot. Despite Rollins’ frantic protests, the bell rang, and tolled, in quick succession, as Ambrose obliterated the new champion with Dirty Deeds and claimed the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Seth Makes His Long-Awaited Return & Takes out Roman Reigns
Just when Roman Reigns thought everything was over and he could rise to his feat after a lengthy battle with AJ Styles, Seth Rollins made his comeback and as he always does – he made an impact. Rollins took out the still Champion with forceful pedigree and stared the camera down with a glare on his face that made his feelings perfectly clear. He then gazed down at Reigns and picked up the title he never lost to hold it up high for the camera as the PPV went off air.

He didn’t have too say a single word and we all know his feelings. It will be awesome to see what is to come from the newly return Seth Rollins. Welcome Back Seth!
