The Royal Rumble Competitors Meet Again
With the Royal Rumble just two weeks away and the ranks of the Rumble Match itself starting to fill up, Raw began with the biggest meeting yet of potential favorites to prevail in the manic match. What began as an address from recently dethroned United States Champion Roman Reigns quickly turned tense with the arrival of WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens, current U.S. Champion (and new Grand Slam Champion) Chris Jericho, Seth Rollins, Braun Strowman and, finally, Brock Lesnar.

But it was the sudden return of Sami Zayn — taken out by Strowman two weeks ago — that lit the proverbial fuse on the whole thing, instigating an all-out brawl. And Lesnar ultimately had the last word in said brawl when he stormed the ring and annihilated Rollins and Zayn (Strowman opted out of a fight) before delivering one last F-5 to Reigns.

(Main Event Match, Braun Strowman & Jeri-KO def. Seth Rollins, Sami Zayn & Roman Reigns)

Both squadrons of Raw’s six-man main event spent the lead-up the match planning for the long game in the Royal Rumble Match (Sami Zayn even attempted a Shield fist bump), but the lingering lesson of the bout may well be that the 30-man melee is, at heart, anyone’s game. The bout broke down before the bell even rang and continued to do so at various intervals throughout the contest, with Roman Reigns often taking the worst of the punishment from Jeri-KO (KO in particular) and Braun Strowman.

Seth Rollins gave his team some relief by beating back Jericho and helping chop Strowman down to a knee with Reigns, but unfortunately, even a weakened Strowman was too much for legal man Zayn — The Monster Among Men snuffed out Sami’s Helluva Kick attempt and won the match with a Runnng Powerslam. But when he tried to put Sami Zayn through the announce table, Rollins and Reigns came to the rescue, instigating a massive brawl that ended with Owens powerbombing Reigns through the announce table. The Rumble Match may be anybody’s game, but as far as the WWE Universal Title Match goes? For now, it’s advantage: Owens.

Seth vs. Owens – Match Clip (WWE YouTube)

Seth Rollins def. Kevin Owens (By DQ)
It’s official: The latter half of Jeri-KO has been knocked out of Raw’s United States Title clash. In a bout that could have potentially ensured Chris Jericho a 2-on-1 advantage over Roman Reigns, Kevin Owens’ brash temper got the better of him and it’s Seth Rollins who will have a free pass to ringside when his former brother goes to battle. Rollins was sitting pretty in the driver’s seat, taking the fight to the timekeeper’s area when he found himself on the verge of a double count-out. The Architect sprinted back to the ring to break the count, only Owens was lying in wait with ring bell in hand. The Prizefighter’s subsequent attack of Rollins’ ribs with said bell cost him the match, but given that Rollins was too banged-up to Pedigree KO after the match, The Architect’s assistance of Reigns may well not amount to much.

Seth Rollins/Roman Reigns def. Jeri-KO (DQ)
With Kevin Owens staring down a Roman Reigns title defense and Chris Jericho suffering full-on PTSD from his quick trip up the rafters in a shark cage, Jeri-KO should have been easy pickings for Seth Rollins & Reigns in the main event of Raw. And they probably would have been, if not for one word: BRAAAUUUUNNN!

The Gift of Destruction wasn’t apparently satisfied with just demolishing Sin Cara earlier in the night, crashing the main-event match and laying waste to both Reigns and Rollins, ending the match with a disqualification in the Shield veterans’ favor just as they were about to seal the deal against Jeri-KO. Once the match was over, Strowman perpetuated further physicality on a battered Rollins and finally punctuated his beating with a Running Powerslam to Reigns. The lesson: When he says “Or else,” you had better believe that.

Post-Raw
Following the on-air portion of Raw, Seth and Roman had some more fun by locking Jeri-KO in the shark cage that appeared in the opening Raw segment!

Seth Rollins def. Chris Jericho
At Roadblock: End of the Line, Seth Rollins picked up a victory of pure retribution over Chris Jericho. Heading into their showdown, Jericho had cost Rollins the Universal Championship on three separate occasions. Yet, after the six-time World Champion left his best friend, Universal Champion Kevin Owens, at Roman Reigns’ mercy on Monday’s Raw, it appeared he would be forced to face The Architect without KO’s help.

Prior to the match, Rollins made it clear that he wanted Triple H and he would be going through Jericho to get to him. However, for the time being, he would need to focus every bit of his energy on the very dangerous opponent in front of him. The subsequent contest was a completely brutal back-and-forth, with both Superstars utilizing everything they had both inside and outside the ring. Jericho was in charge for much of the match. Yet, no matter what was thrown at him, Rollins refused to give in. Before long, the two Superstars were going shot for shot and finishing maneuver for finishing maneuver, including Rollins fighting his way out of not one, but two Walls of Jericho.

Then, in the height of the action, Kevin Owens suddenly emerged and climbed on the apron to cause a distraction. While it looked as if KO might have been making amends with his best friend, his efforts were met with angry screams from Jericho. Moreover, the commotion Owens paved the way for Rollins to hit the Pedigree for the three-count and put an end to the hard-fought contest.
With the huge win, Rollins not only achieved some payback, but moved one step closer to an inevitable showdown with The Game. Yet, as the WWE Universe would soon learn, the night was far from over for both Rollins and Jericho

Seth Rollins Helps Roman Reigns Take out Jericho & Owens
It seemed that Jericho and Owens’ friendship had reached the end of the line, but it became clear that Jericho, in a clever ruse, had delivered the DQ-inducing blow on purpose so his buddy could retain the title (in a match vs. Roman Reigns).

The two cohorts tried to get out of Dodge, but they were cut off at the pass by Seth Rollins, who proceeded to join up with Reigns to put both Jericho and Owens through two separate tables in classic Shield style. The savagery was undoubtedly satisfying for The Big Dog, but his journey to dethrone Owens is far from over.

The New Day def. Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns, Chris Jericho & Kevin Owens
With just a few hours to go before tying Demolition’s all-time Tag Team Title record, The New Day pulled out every last trick in the book to extend their reign as Raw Tag Team Champions.

No, this isn’t a cut-and-paste glitch: Getting sprayed with champagne made an irate Stephanie amenable to some last-minute machinations by Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns’ showing in a four-way brawl on “The Rollins Report” meant that ya boys had to defend their titles in yet another Triple Threat Match, this time against aspiring Tag Team Champions Jeri-KO and former Tag Team Champions Rollins & Reigns.

Got all that? Good. The long and short of it is that New Day are still champions by the skin of Francesca II Turbo’s brass skin, all thanks to Rollins. Jeri-KO was a count away from the titles after landing a Pop-up Codebreaker on Woods, until Rollins shoved Owens into Jericho to break up the pinfall, and then Jericho into Owens when the two started to bicker over the contact. Rollins administered a Pedigree to Jericho, then much like their first win of the night, Big E grabbed his ankle while Woods limply draped his arm over Jericho for the pin.

But wait, there was more: While Owens pleaded with Jericho to believe that he didn’t cost them the match on purpose, Reigns made his way to the ring and stared Owens down in preparation for a massive Spear. Seeing what was coming down the pike, Jericho took his leave and more or less left Owens to the mercy of The Big Dog, who ended the show posing with his United States Title and Owens’ WWE Universal Title. End of the line indeed.
